Swanston Four Wheel Drive Track

The Swanston 4WD track takes you from Runnymede North of the small rural township of Sorell on the Tasman Highway to Little Swanport on the East Coast of Tasmania. This track features some steep descents and rocky terrain. THe total track is just under 33 kilometres and will take you app. 2 – 3 hours.

Track information

This track is considered to be of medium difficulty, it can be much harder following heavy rain. Along this journey it is necessary to cross a steep ford – there are also gates to be opened, and importantly closed after you pass through.

Track Details

Start by turning off the Tasman Hwy at Woodsdale located between Sorell and Orford.


This track has difficult sections, which are made much harder following heavy rain during winter months.

When planning to complete the Swanston four-wheel drive track, we recommend you are accompanied by another vehicle and carry recovery gear.
